Tom started his shipping career in 1982 with Odfjell Tankers in Bergen, Norway.

From 1990 he spent six years in commercial banking, the latter two as Deputy CEO and COO for all banking operations with Industri & Skipsbanken AS. He left banking in 1996 and founded his own investment company, Spinnaker AS.
